Has Anyone Won a Lawsuit Against Monsanto Roundup?

A couple days ago a landmark decision for $289 Million was made by jurors in San Francisco against Monsanto in favor of Dewayne Johnson, a school groundskeeper who had been exposed to Roundup Week Killer over his entire career. In 2015, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer announced its findings that glyphosate-based herbicides, the most popular being Roundup, are "probable" carcinogens. But through their own research, Monsanto denied any link between the active ingredient in Roundup - glyphosate - and cancer, saying hundreds of studies have established that glyphosate is safe which lead Monsanto to never place a warning label on any of the millions of bottles of Roundup sold every year around the world. Yet over 800 patients with cancer - including non-Hodgkin lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and leukemia – have come forward to sue Monsanto as a result of innocent, and extended use of the product. In closing arguments, Brent Wisner, Johnson’s lawyer, told the jury, “Monsanto scientists knew of the cancer risk posed by Roundup as far back as the 1970s, but failed to inform the public and instead engaged in a ‘deliberate effort to distort the truth’ as the weed killer generated hefty returns.” The jury agreed.
