Bettendorf Renewable Energy Inquiry and Engineering Two-Day Workshop | Bettendorf Community Schools | Friday, 31. January 2020

Bettendorf Renewable Energy Inquiry and Engineering workshop is a FREE two-day professional development training made possible by Arconic Foundation and CE. This inquiry-based, hands-on science and engineering training program offers a review of the science, technology, and classroom applications of clean energy applicable for all grade bands. Over the course of two days, teachers will be exposed to renewable energy through both the lens of hands-on activities as well as teacher-generated and classroom-tested curriculum.
On Day 1, teachers will focus on both gaining insight into the usage of specific hands-on tools they will have access to in the classroom as well as exploring specific content topics and how they relate to the NGSS. Topics on this day will include energy fundamentals, circuitry construction and data collection, grid dynamics, and wind energy. On Day 2, teachers will focus on specific curricular tools and planning strategies they can employ to implement renewable energy concepts in their classroom, strongly aligned to best practices in the NGSS framed through Ambitious Science Teaching. The opportunity will be provided to explore specific 6th-8th-grade or 9th-12th grade curriculum. Teachers will leave with access to a diverse array of hands-on tools, as well as substitute reimbursement for the Day 1 and a stipend for Day 2. NOTE: This is a two-day event and teachers must attend both days.
About Arconic Foundation:
Arconic Foundation is proud to support CE and bring this innovative program to Arconic communities nationwide. Arconic Foundation’s mission is to support non-profit partners who advance STEM Education and Workforce Development in Arconic communities. We view support for K-12 STEM programs as critical to shaping the workforce of the future – the economic future of our communities and the advanced manufacturing industry depends on it. By investing early in impactful STEM curricula, we can spark the imagination of our youth and set them on a path that encourages creativity and innovation – the very skills that make Arconic and other advanced manufacturers successful. CE is a proven and innovative model that we believe can bring to life the issues and solutions around energy management. Energy is a critical component of what we do in industry and in all of our personal lives – it is a topic that we want our youth educated about so that they can solve the problems of tomorrow.

About CE: CE is a national clean energy, career connected education program from Bonneville Environmental Foundation. Together with schools, educators and industry, we strive to build a clean energy future to ensure that our communities and the environment are thriving and resilient. We work to expand access to opportunities for all students regardless of their geography, gender, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. CE is funded by corporations, regional utilities, and philanthropic organizations. To date, our funders have impacted more than 150,000 students nationwide through CE programming.
