This is a community space for Boston area people who love science and are interested in a sister march to the DC March for Science, taking place on Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Boston Common from 2:00 to 4:00! There will also be kid-centric entertainment at the Parkman Bandstand on the Common from 1:00 to 4:00.

The March for Science champions publicly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity. We unite as a diverse, nonpartisan group to call for science that upholds the common good, and for political leaders and policy makers to enact evidence-based policies in the public interest. This group is inclusive of all individuals and types of science.

  • More to see at the Kids' March! The people at Play-Well TEKnologies, Teaching Engineering to Kids, know that kids are already naturally gifted creators. At this Kids' Corner table, kids will get added inspiration from specially trained instructors. They'll dive into a massive collections of LEGO® parts. And while they build elaborate objects, structures and vehicles, they will explore fundamental principles of engineering and physics. They also learn to collaborate and create without fear of mistakes. The experience is joyful, the impact long-lasting. Welcome to the Kids' March, Play-Well!

  • Hey there folks, is everyone excited about Saturday? I know we on the leadership team can't wait to see everyone out there supporting science. Recently we've had a lot of questions come up surrounding the march so we've decided to draw up a helpful list. 1. Will we be marching or stationary? This will be a stationary rally at the Boston Common. With so many people expected it isn't logistically possible for us to march. If you would like to march we encourage you to look into the 9 or so groups marching to our event. http://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Frallybus.net%2Fmarch-for-science-on-boston%2F&h=ATMC-G0xqTRigZmyEkndAzUusGbyv57HqZVCx6EWSNoX6oyda00TNJUuPD2V9N3voU1kDo6D1xw4trSEJUgUgQoM0HIN3ZGyt4zepmlgsTnDFg8v9SflZg&s=1 2. Can I bring my children? Yes! We have an entire kids section set up with guest speakers and interactive learning experiences. Children are also welcome at the main event. Please note we are not a daycare facility, all children should be accompanied by an adult. 3. Will shirts be available for purchase the day of the event? No, we do not have the permits or insurance to do transactions on the common. If you see anyone attempting to sell merchandise please let a member of staff know. 4. Are backpacks allowed? The police department has asked that people refrain from bringing bags if reasonably possible. We understand that this is not always possible and ask that if you do bring a bag that you do not leave it unattended. Clear or see through bags are preferred. 5. Will the day just be speakers? No, we have a few local bands who volunteered to play for us. We will have a section towards the Park St end of the common with small groups leading songs the whole time. 6. Is there anything I shouldn't put on my sign? A good rule for this event is to remember that there will be children present. If it's unacceptable to show an 8 year old you probably shouldn't bring it. Please remember that we are a non partisan event not a rally for or against political affiliations. 7. Are you prepared for medical issues? Yes we will have a med tent with EMTs standing by. 8. Will your event be accessible for people with disabilities? Yes, we will have an entire section near the front for those with different accessibility needs. There will also be ASL interpreters in attendance. 9. What do I do if a fight breaks out? Do not engage or try to stop it. Move away from the individuals and contact a volunteer or one of the police officers that we have on site. 10. How do I recognize a volunteer? Easy, regular volunteers will be in bright orange shirts with our logo on the front and volunteer printed on the back. Leaders will have the same shirt but in garnet. 11. Can I stake my sign in the ground or leave it behind for display? No, no stakes of any sort are allowed on the common. If you do not want to take your sign home you can throw it away or give it to a volunteer to be recycled. Signs should be made from cardboard, wooden ones are not allowed. 12. Alcohol or drug use? No Thank you for all the great questions. If you feel there's something we didn't cover or would like clarification do not hesitate to contact either myself or any of our other awesome mods.
