Miki’s Play Date with Stephanie Rae :Playful with Props | Tuesday, 22. September 2020

Let's Get Playful With Props!

We're giving ourselves permission to break the rules!

"Traditional improv" requires that all props are imagined, but online improv opens up a new world of possibilities. And we're going to explore them! If your character is thirsty, take a sip of water. If your character needs to write, use a real pen and a notepad. If you're switching characters to become someone new, change your hair, clothing, or accessories.

By using real objects to raise the stakes and adding costumes to bolster our character work, we'll generate deeper engagement and make our scenes more fun and cinematic. The session will include classical and musical short form games, along with some long-form scenework.

It's time to give props to props. Come play with us!

Stephanie Rae has been studying traditional and musical improv for the last eleven years. After falling in love with the form at the Washington Improv Theater, she moved to Miami, founded Negative Four Months, and created hit shows including Law & Disorder and The Laughter Games. She later joined the Society Circus Players, performing monthly in Coral Gables and in festivals including Miami Improv, Palm Beach, Countdown, and UCB's Del Close Marathon - in which she conceived and directed a Boyz II Men themed improv show. Stephanie has taught weekly classes for Red Carpet Kids and workshops for teens and adults from around the world. These days, she directs the Black Improv Alliance, performing with HBCUnity, International Players Club, and Wakanda vs. Everybody in their weekly shows and at festivals. She also has a law degree - but mostly uses it to win arguments online.
