MTB Showcase: Musical Directors Call Out | Friday, 03. July 2020

We are looking for 2 Musical Directors and 2 Assistant Musical Directors for MTB's biggest show of the year - Showcase! Check out what the jobs entail and get those applications in!

Role - Musical Director for Showcase

Deadline: Friday 3rd July 2020 at 11 PM

Please email applications for MD to email with:

- Full Name

- Previous Experience

Outlined below is detail of what the Showcase MD roles entail:

- Aiding the proposal process and giving a insight on how realistic proposed pieces would be musically.

- Involves a LOT of arranging, as there are 8 differently orchestrated pieces, it is the MD/AMDs role to rearrange them for an orchestra of 20 or less (size of the Winston pit) as some scores found on the internet won’t suffice.

- If orchestrations cannot be found online then it is up to the MD to create these for the show, however arranging/orchestrations can be outsourced to other musical keen beans!

- Conducting is an important skill to have as an MD will conduct portions of the show, as well as run the Sitzprobe for their half of the Show. No previous experience is necessary, but do be aware that this will be a big aspect of the role when applying.

- Sometimes MD/AMDs are asked to teach chorus lines, so ability to teach harmony quickly and effectively is desirable.

- Piano sight-reading/rehearsal pianist abilities are very useful (but this can be outsourced to other rehearsal pianists).

- Having good relations and contacts with musicians is essential as the MD/AMDs will be recruiting the band, any rehearsal pianist(s) and any help with orchestrations etc

- Communication with the rest of the creative team, ESPECIALLY directors, is essential to ensure that arrangements are written and rehearsed in good time for the Sitzprobe.

- Organisation is imperative to ensure that everything musical is written and well rehearsed for every number in Showcase.

MDing for Showcase is a HUGE and highly rewarding role, and a great experience to have. This is a job as big as, if not bigger, than a main show, so make sure you’re prepared to undertake the responsibility before applying!

NOTE: If MTB are unable to put on Showcase in it's usual TB1 slot, our TB2 Winston Slot will be used for Showcase! However, neither of these slots have been confirmed!
