  • Come for the MUSIC, stay for the food, beer, wine, bourbon, cider, friends, dessert, prizes, etc.Buy tix at: http://bit.ly/2rX9aTg Our great lineup of musicians kicks off with Karen Salmon of Things That Fly - Chicago and a wonderful group of stars, including Katie Kadan, Dave Budrys, Christopher Elam and Joel Styzens . As noted, in the write-up below about Karen and her musical adventure, she really does practice in her minivan so she can put on quite the show on stage. Karen performs originals and covers regularly as a solo artist and with the band Things That Fly. Married and the mother of four, Karen has been called “desperate” and “distracted” in her exploration of what it means to write songs in her 40’s. Since she first picked up a guitar a decade ago, she finds herself writing in the bathroom or minivan in order to have any hope of completing a song. (She is also honing her ability to write in her sleep.) Salmon’s music is alternatively playful and stark—and has clear undertones of overcooked meat and unfolded laundry. Karen wakes up to Led Zeppelin, goes to sleep to Ella Fitzgerald and dreams about Loretta Lynn. This year, Karen Salmon is beyond excited to perform with Katie Kadan (singer songwriter extraordinaire, who headlines her own band and is about to drop her first 100% solo CD of powerhouse originals—#reallywontwanttomiss--she also sings/plays piano with the Simpletones, Doomarang, and The Tip). Dave Budrys is a musician and sound engineer based in Evanston, IL who plays bass, guitar, and sings. This year he played Lollapalooza with Lucky Diaz and The Family Jam Band, WGN Radio and the Mercury Theater with Donica Lynn, Fitzgerald’s with Gerald Dowd, and CabCab at Arranmore Farm, as well as shows with Primary (The Cure tribute), All Mods Conned (The Jam tribute), and Who’s This Mary? Dave has also played with Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players, Electric Dirt, The Patty Elvis Band, Mark Cleveland, Lisa DeRosia and Lush Budgett, and The Chuckleheads. Dave also runs his studio Early Recording, and provides live sound for events throughout the Midwest), Christopher Elam (a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, engineer, producer, owner of Number 13 Studio and member of Plains, and Shelley Miller and the BCC—also with a new solo album coming soon #reallywontwanttomissthiseither) and Joel Styzens (a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and hearing conservation advocate specializing in drums, percussion, guitar, piano and hammered dulcimer. Styzens has toured Internationally in Switzerland and Germany and has been featured on NPR, Chicago's Nationally syndicated WGN news, and in such publications as Time Out, the National Examiner and the UK Hearing Times.)
