May 2017: Melanoma Awareness Month (Part 1) | Monday, 01. May 2017

May is Melanoma/Skin Cancer Awareness Month, with the first Monday in May being Melanoma Monday. It is a great time to spread the word about prevention, treatments, research, fundraising ... and to honor the survivors and remember the angels. It is a month when BLACK rules because that is the awareness color for melanoma. Please join us by wearing black and creating awareness of this horrific beast! (This event is just for the first 2 weeks of May because FB limits an event to 2 weeks. Part 2 will be for the last 2 weeks of the month)
  • Don't think you're safe. Please support this drive during the month of May. Show your support and become aware.
  • Facebook limits the number of friends we can send invites to, and several of us have reached our limit. So we are depending on the rest of you to carry on with sending invitations. To do that (on a PC), mouse over the Share button at the top of the page and click on Invite Friends. And start inviting! Thank you so much for your help!!
  • It says I have zero invites remaining. :'(

  • We have gotten lots of new attendees, thanks to the invites from Kristen Albair, Melinda N Todd Lee, Jeanne Conkright, Jessica Armstrong, Brittany Spiers, Valérie Lemeunier, Reba Clevenger, and Stevie Williams, among others. I'm happy to say that we now have over 600 peeps joining us and we're quickly approaching last year's attendance. There are over 200 peeps thinking about joining us ... and I hope they realize that it is a virtual event. It costs nothing and you go nowhere ... but together we create melanoma awareness during May!
  • Melanoma isn't just skin cancer!
  • You guys are amazing! So many of you are inviting your friends, including Julie Brown, April Brown Pulliam, Tiburcio BJ Trevino, Catherine Rippin, Miranda Howington, NanaPapa TomSue Gregory, Tiya Cotter, Somer Leigh, and Jackie Jacobsen, that we are almost at 600! Great job everyone!!
  • Jess I will black to honor Flip and hoping and praying he will stay in remission.
  • Brittany Spiers, thank you for inviting me! Kameron actually has an appt in Hattiesburg on May 5 to have some spots seen about on her head, all because you've made me so much more aware! Thank you!
  • We've passed the 400 attendees mark, and I see that lots of you have been inviting your friends. Thanks to Katherine Burger, Kim Cooper, Molly Ann Jones, and Donna Sowul and many more for taking the time to send invitations to your friends. You are already doing a great job creating melanoma awareness and it's not even May yet!
  • Looks like Penny Martin, Deb Lane, and Caitlin Grosvenor have been inviting friends to join us for this event. Thank you, ladies! I hope everyone will follow your lead.
  • I see that Elizabeth Roberts Kaddoura, Lora Capito, Elizabeth Mailhot, and several others have been inviting friends to join this event. Thank you all!! Keep spreading the word!!
  • As part of Melanoma awareness month, there will be free skin cancer screenings at Tunnell Cancer Center on May 1st. **Registration is required.**
