Creating Opportunities for Partnership through Listening | DPS Acoma Campus Room 113 | Friday, 25. January 2019

Facilitator: Leanne Alaman, Equity and Diversity Consultant
Description: Most of us think we are good listeners, but how often do we feel heard? In our debate centered culture, we are trained to listen through the filter: do I agree or disagree? Are they right or wrong? Inside this filter, we listen and communicate to convince, control and force. It is understandable that we are exhausted by the end of the day! This workshop will use dynamic activities to build listening skills that can dramatically shift this crucial dynamic with youth, staff and workers.
Takeaways:

Participants will become skilled in using 3 listening techniques.
Participants will leave with handouts and activities to share with students, coworkers and staff.
Participants will create a goal for what partnership can look like in their workplace.

Session Style: Lecture & Interactive workshop
Recommended for: Direct service/site staff; Managers or site leads; Organization leadership; New to youth development
