Community Dinner Symposium "No Entiendo: Assimilating in Elgin" | First Congregational United Church of Christ - Elgin | Sunday, 07. January 2018

Jaime Garcia Executive Director of Centro de Informacion will share an overview of what it is like to be a hispanic assimilating into the Elgin community. Immigrant families come to Elgin with little facility, if any with English, and little knowledge of American culture, expectations or laws which may lead to their being more vulnerable to multiple problems such as abuse, neglect, domestic violence, hunger, unemployment, unmet medical needs, etc. Centro de InformaciĆ³n is a not-for-profit Hispanic social service which helps more than 15,000 predominantly low-income Hispanic immigrants each year by providing bilingual advocacy, information and referral, immigration and naturalization services, parenting skills training, community education and youth programs.

Dinner at 5:00 p.m.
Speaker at 5:30 p.m.
While the event is free, a reservation is required.
