Emalkay -

Crusader of all things bass, Martin Knowles - or as we know him, Emalkay - has proven himself to be one of Dubstep's most formidable characters. He has cemented himself as a pivotal figure in the scene, playing a vital role in igniting a movement within the sound in 2009 which eventually became the modern Dubstep sound.

His influence is unmistakably apparent in so many emerging artists and songs today, it's something he is very proud about. It all started in his hometown of Birmingham way back in 2002 where he, with the help of his family of MCs, would scorch the airwaves weekly on pirate radio station, Silk FM. It was here that his love of dubplate culture, bass and DJing grew and it wasn't long before he had his first outing in the form of a limited white label EP in 2003, built in the bedroom with fellow radio DJ, D.e.e.p. It was dark, energetic and pushed the boundary of what was the popular underground sound of at that time, which we now know as Grime. Trademarks that have since become synonymous with his name throughout his career right up to this moment.

More grime and proto-dubstep releases followed soon after but It wasn't until 2007, with Dubstep still in it's infancy that he gained prominence with his guttwisting roller, "Mecha". What followed over the next 2 years were a slew of releases that were received with great acclaim and gained him a great deal of recognition all over the world. "Explicit/Heroics" in 2009 being a good example of just how far his sound had come and yet as uncompromising as ever. By now he was playing regularly across the UK and Europe and creatively this became a significant driving force behind his music.

It was then at the end of 2009 that, wanting to do something bigger and bolder, Emalkay was ready to unleash his next weapon, "When I Look At You". Voted Dubstepforum's best track of '09 and described by Pitchfork as "Irresistable" and by Clash Magazine as "a monster", it was a track that shook the genre from it's very feet. Some have since called it a game changer but Martin, characteristically grounded as always, described it as "A tune that needed to be made."

Dr. Ozi [Never Say Die] - In its earliest stages, Dr. Ozi was an imaginary friend; the figment of a child’s imagination. Giant, strong and extraordinary, Dr. Ozi could outrun cars and jump over buildings with ease. He was often seen flipping trucks, breaking branches and dangling from electrical wires. Like his creator, Dr. Ozi was unparalleled and unique. And like his creator, Dr. Ozi was never held down by expectations.

Since Dr. Ozi’s inception, Toronto-based Nix Chohan has been breaking molds and infiltrating dance floors with uniquely upbeat but relentless sounds of heavy synths and bass. And with releases on Buygore, Firepower and Uplink Audio Dr. Ozi has enjoyed recognition from bass music greats including Skrillex, Nero, Zomboy, Adventure Club & more.

Innovative in more than just his music production, the powerhouse artist has a great sense for the drama required of a live performance. Dr. Ozi has captivated the audiences of countless lauded nightclubs and international festivals such as WEMF and Medalla Light.

A proud force and trademark of Toronto’s talent, Dr. Ozi will continue to push boundaries and brighten dimly-lit clubs with his flashing, fast paced sound. Without a doubt, Dr. Ozi is on the way to becoming the next big act to come out of Toronto’s underground dance scene.

badXchannels [Cheer Up Kid] -

With Chiodos firmly in the rearview mirror, former frontman Craig Owens is onto the next one -- and one that's much different than any fan could have imagined.

With his new project BXC a.k.a. badXchannels, Owens has moved from ferocious rock to chill alternative soul -- or, as he describes it, "my version of it," drawing from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, early The Weeknd and The Neighborhood's EP and B-sides.

Hairitage -

Bass music has seen its ups and downs, but Hairitage is here to build his own peak to stand the test of time. Aaron LeClair of Portland has set out on a mission to make bass music listenable again. With headbanging monstrosities taking centerstage, producers have lost sight of putting musicality first. Whether you’re in the car, at a party, or in the midst of a festival crowd, Hairitage is good anywhere, anytime.
The fuzzy beatsmith finds himself bouncing between genres, while staying true to his bassy roots. His charismatic and comprehensive style has put him in the mix with artists like Autograf and Butch Clancy, who commissioned official remixes by the Oregonian. Within the live atmosphere, Hairitage has shared the stage with Buku, Taiki Nulight and Woolymammoth, as well as played festivals like Portland NYE and PhantomPDX. Although musicality comes first, that doesn’t mean Hairitage doesn’t know how to rock a party with his own hits.
With a bright future ahead, Hairitage is taking things one step at a time, building a stronghold that fans across all cultures can come to enjoy melodies that will ease the mind and low frequencies that will rattle their body. Wherever you are and whatever you do, you can always enjoy all that Hairitage delivers.
