Rebecca Long is a Lancaster County Native, born and bred. Long grew up with Art integrated into her daily life. At a very young age, she would observe her artist father carving and painting in his sign shop. It was inevitable that Long become an artist, it was in her blood. Long is a graduate of Hempfield High School in Landisville, Pa. Long went onto study Art Education at the number one Art Education program in the nation at The Pennsylvania State University, Main Campus in State College, Pa. At Millersville University, she earned her level II permanent teaching certificate. For over a decade, Long has worked as an Elementary School Art Teacher for The Pennsylvania Public School System. During her years teaching in Central Pa., she started exhibiting both her ceramics and paintings. As Long has developed as a professional artist, her attention has shifted towards solely painting. Long fell in love with color and texture and thus began her collection of oil and watercolor paintings. Long’s collection of oil paintings, “The Bearded Men” collection has been in solo exhibits in Central, Pa. “The Bearded Men” began creation in Central Pa. as Long missed the characters of her hometown of Lancaster. Since moving back to Lancaster to pursue her dream of being a craft show artist, Long has developed a beautiful series of bold and bright watercolor flowers. The light, lovely, happy feeling Long has as she appreciates the Artist Culture of the new Lancaster is felt in her new collection of watercolors. The dichotomy of oil to water and portrait to flower keeps Long balanced and challenged as she keeps cultivating her different genres of work.
