East LA Murals Tour - Sierra Club Central Group Fundraiser | La Terraza Cafe | Saturday, 20. October 2018

Join us for an 1 mile urban hike as we explore the murals that truly express the natural and cultural history of East LA. All as a fundraiser for Sierra Club Central Group!
Lunch by La Terraza in City Terrace is included. This event sold out last time it was hosted at the LACMA "Art of Resistance" show, so now is your best chance to check out this historic tour
The murals of East LA serve as a forum for resistance, identity and provide a platform to re-imagine the urban landscape. Inspired by the Chicana/o movement of the late 1960’s and early 70’s, these murals gave voice to a community often ignored and misrepresented by mainstream media, the educational system, and government agencies.  In response, local artists produced large-scale artworks that reclaim a proud and centuries-old heritage, question inequities of power, spur political action and establish East Los Angeles as a cultural center.  Led by Pete Galindo, the tour will explore the profound contributions these murals have made to el Movimiento and to the fabric of the city and their intersections with public space, architecture and urban planning.
**Parking/meeting location info will be sent to ticket buyers a week before the event.**
