Youth Mental Health First Aid Training - 8 hours course broken down to two 4 hr nights | Maple Shade High School | Wednesday, 22. January 2020


PLEASE NOTE: Wednesday January 22nd & Wednesday Janurary 29th must be attended in order to receive certificate! Both nights 5pm-9pm -total of 8 hours for the course

Program Objectives:
1. Increase knowledge of mental health and substance use disorder issues in youth and adolescents.
2. Enhance sensitivity to the prevalence of mental disorders in adolescent developement, resiliency, and the spectrum of interventions.
3. Raise confidence to intervene and assist individuals experiencing a mental health issue by using a Mental Health First Aid Action Plan.
The course will teach you how to apply the ALGEE action plan:
• Assess for risk of ******* or harm
• Listen non-judgmentally
• Give reassurance and information
• Encourage appropriate professional help
• Encourage self-help and other support strategies

After successfully completing the course, the learner will identify two potential risk factors and warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges common among adolescents, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, ADHD, and substance use disorder.
Successful completion of the course is defined as in-person attendance for 95% of the didactic learning session and a completed course evaluation.

This is a free course provided by a Grant provided by the New Jersey Health Institute.
This is typically at $170.00 course
Upon successful completion, the participant will have a 3 year certification in Mental Health First Aid for Youth
A light dinner will be provided.
