Abstract Painting History and Theory | Saturday, 06. June 2020
About this Event
In this two hour seminar we will contextualize Joan Thorne’s work within the history and current condition of abstract painting. The 20th and 21st centuries have seen abstraction's spiritual and Utopian ambitions erode, even as the practice continues to attract artists who revitalize it with new methods and meanings. Participants will come away with familiarity with the major movements, names, and debates in abstract painting and an appreciation for the components and ideas that go into its making, as well as knowledge of what to look for should you ever meet one. Required viewing prior to class: Joan Thorne Artist Lecture Video.
