Fall 2018 – Advanced Painting Lab + Seminar | San Francisco Art Institute | Saturday, 08. September 2018

ADVANCED PAINTING LAB + SEMINARFelicita Norris8 sessions >> Saturdays, Sep 8-Nov 3
(no class October 6)
10am-1pm, Fort Mason Campus, Studio 26, $385Prerequisite: Students should have completed at least one intermediate-level painting course.
In this advanced painting course, students will expand on or develop a new body of work while familiarizing themselves with the practical, historical and conceptual implications of contemporary art. Using a series of prompts as a guide, students will begin to define their authentic voice, pushing beyond comfort zones and experimenting with new concepts in painting. Class time will be primarily devoted to working on individual projects, and as large-scale painting is highly recommended, students should be prepared to work outside of class time. Even though students are expected to have some prior experience drawing and painting, demonstrations and discussions about materials and techniques will be given as needed. Regular class critiques will encourage students to examine how formal and conceptual approaches can shape each student’s artistic goals. Short weekly discussions, readings and visits to selected museums or galleries will supplement critiques.
