Spring 2020 – Head Shoulders Knees and Toes | San Francisco Art Institute | Tuesday, 03. March 2020

Head Shoulders Knees and ToesSarah Ammons 9 sessions >> Tuesdays, March 3- April 287:30 -10:30pm,  Studio 13, $435
Focusing on the figure exclusively, this course will analyze proportion and gesture through concentrated exercise in observational drawing. Students will isolate body parts and investigate how they move as well as how to accurately capture their expression. Each class will crest a number of studies, drawings, and painting on one part of the body, capturing the expression of the whole body and how they fit together. Investigating light movement throughout the body, the class will involve working from a live model.
____Sarah Ammons studied drawing and painting at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and also completed coursework in art history and philosophy. After receiving her BFA with honors from Queen’s, she completed her MFA at SFAI. Ammons was the recipient of a Murphy and Cadogan Contemporary Art Award and scholarship, in addition to merit-based graduate grants from SFAI. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Graduate Fellowship Award at the Headlands Center for the Arts. As she currently enjoys this year-long residency, Ammons continues to explore themes of psychoanalysis, love/loss, and the struggle of relationships in her work through various techniques in contemplative drawing and painting.
