2018 - Active4Youth Fundraiser - 10th Annual | Spokane Convention Center - Centennial Ballroom | Friday, 19. October 2018

Help keep us running!VIP starts at 5 p.m. - General Admission doors open at 6 invites you to join us at our 10th Annual Fundraising Dinner Auction on Friday, October 19th at the Spokane Convention Center. This fundraiser helps over 6,000 Spokane area children participate in Active4Youth's Elementary Cross Country Program!Beyond home and school, communities play an essential role in encouraging youth to live healthier lives. After school settings, such as after school sports programs, empower kids to make healthy behavior changes and become advocates for healthy eating and physical activity. This year's keynote speaker is 1976 Summer Olympian and Bloomsday Run Don Kardong. Don grew up in the Seattle area, graduated from Stanford University in 1971, received a second bachelor's degree and a teaching certificate from the University of Washington in 1974, and moved to Spokane that year to take a job as as an elementary school teacher. In 1976, he finished fourth in the Olympic marathon in Montreal and the next spring (1977), he founded the Lilac Bloomsday Run (Bloomsday). In 1977, he left teaching to open a retail sporting goods store in downtown Spokane (1977-86) and after selling the business in 1986, he pursued a career as a writer, primarily for Runner's World magazine, which he continued for the next 16 years. From 2002-04 he served as executive director of the Children’s Museum of Spokane. In August of 2004, after many years as a member of Bloomsday’s Board of Directors, he took over as Race Director. He is married (wife Bridgid), and has two grown daughters.In addition to hearing from our keynote speaker, guests will enjoy music and a dinner buffet as well as our silent and live auctions. Proceeds from the auctions support Active4Youth's Elementary Cross Country Program. The program is free to elementary aged students in Spokane Public Schools, Central Valley Schools, and West Valley Schools. Last year, over 6,000 students participated!VIP guests will enjoy a 90-minute cocktail reception with Active4Youth Founders and Mr. Kardong from 5-6:30 p.m.
