28. April 2017 - 19:30 till 21:30

Reinhardt University Opera | Falany Performing Arts Center | Friday, 28. April 2017

The University Opera program develops and prepares students for professional roles in opera. Students must go through demanding training to develop their voices for this career. In addition to vocal studies, the students learn to act, create sets and costumes, and know how to stage the performance.

The spring semester performance will be: "La Périchole" by Offenbach. La Périchole's title character is based on Micaela Villegas, a beloved 18th century Peruvian entertainer and the famous mistress of Manuel de Amat y Juniet, Viceroy of Peru from 1761 to 1776. The story concerns two impoverished Peruvian street-singers, too poor to afford a marriage license, and a lecherous viceroy, Don Andrès de Ribeira, who wishes to make La Périchole his mistress.
